Bristol Community College 2016-17
I. College Participation
Goal: Enhance efforts to provide students with the resources both financial and services to assist in recruitment, retention, and graduation.
A. Enhance efforts to develop funds and resources to help students attend college.
1. Promote access of public and private money at the College to recruit students.
a) Solicit donors to support scholarships.
2. Work with employers to identify potential students to send to college.
3. Deliver academic content in nontraditional modes and locations in the community and workforce sites.
B. Further strengthen Taunton presence and expand FTE enrollment there by 25 percent.
C. Create programming to recruit and engage Dual Enrollment (high school) and outreach to middle schools.
1. Assess the current role and future potential of eLearning in Dual Enrollment.
D. Re-engineer the outreach and on-boarding process for incoming students.
1. Initiate year-long communication plan to tap into the student life cycle.
2. Strategically coordinate engagement to keep students in the pipeline.
3. Target learners with some credit to return to college.
4. Assess if and how students pursuing non-traditional modes of learning can be connected to BRCC.
E. Expand bridge programming to move learners from noncredit to credit.
1. Offer college programming to workforce students.
2. Connect academic services for workforce development students at Davol Street/Workforce Center.
F. Strengthen aspirational messaging regarding college attendance to nontraditional learners.
G. Create transition program for student with disabilities.
1. Further expand culture of accessibility throughout the College.
II. College Completion
Goal: Increase the retention and graduation rates by 1%.
A. Re-engineer the course schedule to limit the number of cancelled courses and promote academic scheduling.
B. Create programming to address third dimension (social barriers) e.g., childcare, transportation, hunger, and others.
C. Further strengthen student services and make them more accessible.
D. Create robust program to collect and analyze data regarding students disengaging from the College.
E. Expand the adoption and use of open educational resources (OER) at the course and program level.
F. Audit workforce training courses to assign credit as appropriate.
III. Student Learning
Goal: Continue to develop comprehensive educational environment designed to assist and measure student learning and provide services that contribute to student engagement.
A. Implement comprehensive process for assessing student learning outcomes.
1. Align program outcomes to civic and career competencies.
B. Align program offerings to further complement match to workforce needs.
C. Enhance student success through expanding experiential learning.
D. Re-engineer General Education and assess new plan for student learning outcomes.
E. Continue to develop and support a safe physical and virtual environment for all members of the College community at all locations.
IV. Workforce Alignment
Goal: Create a paradigm shift to include the upskill for students to enter the workforce with credentials that reflect the needs of the local business and industry in the BRCC service area.
A. Play a leadership role in the development of off-shore wind industry in New Bedford.
B. Expand and align articulation agreements for “stackable credits” with industry recognized credentials.
C. Expand the delivery of credit and degree completion programs in the workplace.
D. Exercise leadership in implementation of Workforce Investment and Opportunity Act statewide and within region.
E. Secure commitment from Massachusetts Life Science Center to create Advanced Biomedical Manufacturing Training Center in New Bedford.
F. Expand BRCC relationship with Wampanoag Tribal Nation to offer training and education services.
G. Expand corporate and workforce training programs in all BRCC locations.
V. Preparing Citizens
Goal: Enhance extracurricular and co-curricular programming at all sites that prepare students to enter the workforce and civic responsibility.
A. Implement civic learning graduation requirement to align with Board of Higher Education standards.
B. Promote and expand student leadership opportunities at all locations.
C. Broaden activities, programming and operations that demonstrate BRCC is an all-inclusive environment.
VI. Eliminate Disparities
Goal: Create plan to continue to increase enrollment and success for underrepresented student groups.
A. Promote continued understanding and embracing of diversity and inclusion.
1. Identify employee groups to begin training.
B. Continue to expand effort to recruit and retain employees of color.
C. Implement assessment project to evaluate changes in disparities among student populations and create new solutions to continue improving achievement gaps.
VII. Institutional Advancement
Goal: Invest in personnel and systems that will prepare the College for coming changes and challenges.
A. Expand Capital Campaign communications to better engage donors throughout the service area.
B. Infuse succession planning into professional development training at the College.
C. Expand and further strengthen information sharing strategies to ensure that all members of the College community can respond effectively and participate in BRCC activities and initiatives.
D. Explore robust automation systems to lead to decisions that will improve student relationship management, grants, student life cycle, participation in governance, and efficiency.
E. Finalize and implement as appropriate plans for optimal space use College-wide.
F. Open new John J. Sbrega Health and Science Building and position as a leading example of sustainability efforts.
