Any form of workplace violence is prohibited at Bristol Community College. It is the policy of the college to assure students, employees, and the public a place of employment which is free from recognized hazards that are causing, or are likely to cause, death, serious physical or mental harm to the employee, student, or the public.
Violence in the workplace may consist of, but is not limited to, the following:
- Intimidation, by way of suggestion of violence to a co-worker, supervisor and/or student
- Harassment-behaviors that worry or trouble the victim
- Physical restraint, bondage, and confinement
- Threats - verbal and physical
- Assault and battery (verbal and physical)
- Concealment or brandishing of a weapon
Any Bristol Community College employee who believes that he/she is a victim of workplace violence and anyone who witnesses an incident of workplace violence should notify his/her supervisor who, in turn, will notify the Office of Human Resources and Affirmative Action. If the employee’s supervisor is not available, he/she should notify the Office of Human Resources directly in person, by telephone at 774-357-2195 or email correspondence at diversitytitleIX@bristolcc.edu.
Any Bristol Community College employee who violates the probation against workplace violence will be subject to appropriate disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal.
Any person in a supervisory capacity who has actual knowledge by direct observation or by receipt of a complaint of violence involving any of those employees he or she supervises, or over whom he or she has management authority, and who does not immediately take corrective action or report the matter directly to management or its designee, shall be subject to appropriate discipline, up to and including termination of employment.
