Statement of Solidarity

The Women’s Center stands in solidarity with those advocating for justice and working towards dismantling the systematic racism that exists in our world. Social justice for all is central to our definition of feminism, as we cannot have gender equality without racial equality. We will continue to support all movements seeking an end to sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, classism, and other forms of oppression that continue to permeate our world.

We understand that it is a challenging and traumatic time, as we witness the violent loss of another life to the grasp of racism.  George Floyd’s name is added to a too-long list of men and women (Say her name -campaign) tragically lost.

Although our physical space is closed, we are still here to support you! If you have questions or comments on how the Women’s Center can help you during this time please contact the Director of Women’s Center, Iva Brito at iva.brito@bristolcc.edu or 774-375-2954.

About the Bristol Women's Center

The mission of the Women’s Center at Bristol Community College is to provide a safe and supportive space of empowerment through advocacy and education. The Women’s center promotes the concept of intersectionality—that gender intersects with all other markers of identity—and thus works to help students understand the complexity of their lives and the lives of others.

This work is done by making the connections between the classroom and the outside world by organizing and facilitating student center programs, workshops, lectures, and seminars aimed at improving self-esteem, developing leadership skills, promoting diversity, and raising awareness about women’s and gender issues. The center commits itself to the support and progress of all students in their personal, academic and career needs.

The Bristol Women's Center is a place of inclusion, open to all genders and identities.
